by Neil LockhartSep 22, 2009, 5:48 am ET

This article, is based upon the book “Cultivating the Pearl” about recruiting top talent. It is scheduled for release early 2010. Neil Lockhart’s recent focus has been on recruiting in the construction industry. His recruiting experience dates back to 1997 with Hall Kinion, a technical staffing agency, where he received the Ultima Award in 2000 for outstanding billing. He has functioned as a technical recruiter at the agency level and as a corporate recruiter. As a corporate recruiter, he recruited top candidates for financial services, online media, advertising, sales/marketing, and technology positions.

The Danger of Playing it Safe When Hiring
    Posted by Bob Corlett

Hiring can be made more predictable, but it cannot be made safe. Sooner or later you will make a hiring mistake. You will. You simply cannot avoid it, mistakes happen. The “Hippies” are Back in 2.0 Form!

Notice that the “Hippie” movement of the 60′s & 70′s represented a “counter-culture” formed into “social groups and communities”. Sound familiar? It should because today there is a “counter-culture” forming into social groups and communities online that reject established corporate cultures, media and age-old philosophies that accept things as they’ve been done instead of changing things that can be done better.

Today hippies 2.0 are using a different kind of psychedelic drug called social technology. Instead of…

Social Media for Recruiting u2013 Post and Pray approach?

Posted by Sarang Brahme on August 13, 2010 at 10:27am

Early-users has definitely started calling it ALA u201cDot Com Bubbleu201d of internet. We have to remember that it merely serves as a u201cToolu201d and not as an entire u201cStrategyu201d with a stand-alone usage.

Well, with this post I would like to highlight a big u201cDonu2019tu201d in Recruitment as far as social media goes. Social media does give a large visibility on internet with itu2019s advance tools and technology. However,

Posted by Mike Waterton on August 11, 2010 at 10:04am

The networking event I attended last night had an unusually low turnout. I appreciate that people are on holiday, but even taking this in to account I still expected there to be more people to a very regular event.

This morning I had an email from a business associate who I had expected to see at the networking evening, so I called him and asked why he couldnu2019t make it. To my dismay, he had chosen not to attend thinking it would

long discussion as I wanted to demonstrate that he had missed one of the main
points of networking. The epiphany that followed…

Jay, Thanks for the kind comments on the ClearedJobs.net video you linked below. Too few candidates understand that they can and should ask detailed questions about the work, the company, and the future so that they can make a good decision about their own future. Understandable to some extent during any recession, but still critical. Will have a series of new videos up later this spring too.
