Quality Assurance Engineer- Reston, VA

Looking for a candidate with strong technical skills to develop and execute test strategies for telecom related programs. The QA engineer will be responsible for working with the QA manager and project leads to help develop, execute and automate test cases based on a published set of technical requirements. The candidate preferably has some understanding of the telecommunications domain.

Responsibilities: 

  • Develops and executes test strategies and test cases for telephony network applications/infrastructure (e.g., web and API provisioning, routing, etc.).
  • Develops and maintains regression test suites for production products.
  • Communicates status regularly to management and/or project leads.
  • Possesses the ability to work with minimal supervision and/or independently.
  • Utilizes experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Write or modify existing scripts in Perl or UNIX to automate repetitive tests.
  • Create tests, scripts and defect reports using the team standards and best practices.   

Experience Required: 

  • 7 + years overall test experience
  • Minimum 5 years software testing experience of UNIX or Linux client server applications, including testing application installation/configuration, load/performance, and APIs   
  • Thorough understanding of test processes and ability to estimate task duration
  • Excellent Linux/UNIX trouble shooting skills
  • Writing UNIX shell scripts and/or Perl scripts
  • Experience with test automation.
  • Experience with test tools such as Selenium and QTP
  • Basic knowledge of networking and TCP/IP
  • Oracle Database and SQL experience
  • Experience testing Web Technologies/GUI (e.g., WebLogic, apache, JBoss)
  • Ability to perform requirements traceability and create high level and detailed test plans and test reports.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

Experience Desired: 

  • Experience in a telecommunications environment focusing on VoIP.
  • Knowledge of SIP and ENUM protocols.
  • Experience testing XML Interfaces and using API testing tools like Webinject.
  • Experience with LoadRunner. 

Education Qualifications: 

  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science or related field.

Job Qualifications: 

  • 2-3 years experience analyzing, designing and implementing integration solutions using J2EE technologies or related technologies, and 4+ years overall IT
  • 3-5 years experience with multiple programming technologies, including Java, XML/XSLT/WSDL, Web Services, SOAP, JSP
  • Key technology experience in areas such as J2EE, XML, Web Services and SOA
  • Knowledge of change management tools, Subversion, TortoiseSVN
  • Experience with a wide variety of testing tools and techniques, ex. JUnit
  • Must have experience with Functional Testing, Integration Testing, System Testing, and User Acceptance Testing phases
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, constantly changing environment
  • Must have knowledge and understand fundamental concepts of Continuous Integration, Automated Testing, User Acceptance Testing

POSITION SUMMARY:

Analyze performance, scalability, and load tolerance of a commercial software product suite used for enterprise content management.  Develop test drivers/utilities for use along with software performance and load testing products to quantify performance and load tolerance of the software.  Document performance and diagnose problems.  Apply software improvements and also work with software development staff to resolve performance problems.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Identify product functions that should be subject to focused performance/load testing based on customer usage patterns.  Also identify components for testing based on analysis of software design specifications.

Design test scenarios to evaluate performance and load tolerance.

Use formal software tools and custom developed utilities to measure software performance and load.

Provide metrics to quantify software performance and load.

Diagnose and correct software performance problems working with other members of the software development staff as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:

Experience performing as a software engineer to design and implement software solutions. 

Experience with performance and load testing of software applications beyond GUI record/playback.  This position is suited for an individual with a strong software engineering background.

Proficiency in diagnosing and resolving software performance and load tolerance problems.

Ability to debug and reverse engineer software for the purpose of determining cause of performance and load tolerance problems.

Experience with software development using .NET and Oracle PL/SQL.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.  Highly organized.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Typically requires bachelor’s degree or equivalent, and five to seven years of related work experience.
